Sweet Szeged Pepper (Capsicum annuum)
Sweet Szeged Paprika is a classic Hungarian pepper from the famous city of Szeged which is known as the paprika powder capital of the world. We like to eat the peppers fresh, pickle them or dry them and grind them into a sweet paprika powder.
In Hungary, these peppers are eaten raw as an accompaniment to most any meal and while they are sweet, the occasional pepper has a tiny bit of spice. The compact and productive plants grow well either in the garden or in a large container.
The waxy fruits grow to 3-6” and start off yellow before maturing to a deep orange color. They are tasty at all stages but if you are making paprika powder let the fruits turn orange before drying.
Origin: We brought the parent seed of this beautiful and tasty Hungarian pepper to our garden from a trip to visit family in Hungary. The seeds came from the garden of a cousin in Szeged where parts of our family has lived for generations.

Planting Instructions: We recommend starting peppers indoors in a sunny and warm location 4-6 weeks before last frost in spring. Plant outdoors in full sun after danger of frost in spring. Note: pepper seeds need soil temperatures to be at least 70 F to germinate and we use a heating pad under the seedling tray to maintain temperature.
