Sweet Nonna Pepper (Capsicum annum)
This big Italian heirloom pepper is super-sweet just like your Nonna! (Grandma) The long fruits ripen to a dark yellow color and average 8" long. The flavor is very sweet with a hint of fruit and minerals. The thin skin makes this a great variety for fresh eating or frying and we like to stir-fry a batch with Jimmy Nardello peppers and onions to put on sandwiches. The plant are large and grow up to 4' tall so we recommend staking.
Origin: The parent seed of the Sweet Nonna Pepper was given to us by our friends who live and garden near Florence in Tuscany. While the variety is common in Italian gardens, this particular strain has been saved and improved by their family for several generations.
(Approximately 20 seeds per packet)
Germination rate: 85% - tested 9/1/24
Planting Instructions: We recommend starting peppers indoors in a sunny and warm location 4-6 weeks before last frost in spring. Plant outdoors in full sun after danger of frost in spring. Note: pepper seeds need soil temperatures to be at least 70 F to germinate and we use a heating pad under the seedling tray to maintain temperature.
