Château de Chartres Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)

A very rare variety from the Center - Val de Loire region of France. Little is known of the origins of this outstanding variety. Large intense red fruits routinely reach 500 to 800 grams (our biggest fruit was over 2 lbs!). The variety is of the swollen beefsteak type with plump, curved shoulders. Beefy flesh with the exceptional tomato flavor of yesteryear.

Château de Chartres Tomatoes are a later season variety and their superior flavor makes them a perfect variety for sandwiches and fresh eating. The flavor makes them a great sauce or canning variety too. If you are a fan of huge fruits and old time tomato flavor, this variety will not disappoint!

Origin: The parent seed of our Château de Chartres Tomato was given to us by our friend, author and Master Gardener Valéry Tsimba while visiting her at her home in Paris. Her book, Container Gardening The Permaculture Way, Sustainably Grow Vegetables and More in Your Small Space is available in English on Amazon and it's a fantastic resource for all gardeners.

(Approximately 20 seeds per packet)

Germination Rate: 95% tested 7/28/25

Planting Instructions: We recommend starting tomato seeds indoors in a bright and warm location 4 to 6 weeks before last frost date in spring. Transplant after danger of frost in full sun and trellis.
