Cold Mountain Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)

There's nothing flashy about this old heirloom variety from Haywood County, NC, just a rich and timeless old fashioned flavor.

Cold Mountain was made famous by the book of the same name by author Charles Frazier and the large mountain and surrounding valleys remain largely untouched in the passage of time.

Friends of ours live and farm in one of the quiet coves on the north end of the Cold Mountain escarpment and this classic beefsteak variety was named and grown by their family since before the Civil War.

Tomato breeders have created some incredible new varieties that we love to grow, but if you're looking for an old time tomato variety like your grandparents used to grow, we think you'll love the Cold Mountain Tomato.

The plants are very productive and produce fruits that are generally 300-400 grams with the occasional tomato over 1 lb. (Indeterminate)

Origin: The parent seed was given to us by friends who farm near Flat Laurel Creek on the northern slopes of Cold Mountain.

(Approximately 20 seeds per packet)

Germination Rate: 95% tested 7/25/25

Planting Instructions: We recommend starting tomato seeds indoors in a bright and warm location 4 to 6 weeks before last frost date in spring. Transplant after danger of frost in full sun and trellis.Â
