Chives (Allium schoenoprasum)
Chives are a perennial onion which means they grow back each year. We love to add chives to most any dish as a garnish and the purple flowers are an all-time favorite of bees. Chives are one of the first greens to emerge in spring and are an essential part of any herb garden. A great source of Vitamins A & C and chives grow well in containers.
Origin: Grandma has a patch of chives that have been growing for at least 40 years at our childhood home. Those chives provided the parent seed for the chives in our catalog.
(Approximately 50 seeds per packet)
Germination rate: 80% - tested 9/15/24
Planting Instructions: Sow seeds in a permanent location by scattering in a sunny location in early spring and lightly cover with soil. Seeds can take a while to germinate and should be watered daily to keep them moist. Great for containers too!
