Chiang Mai Purple Pepper (Capsicum annuum)
A spicy purple chili pepper from Northern Thailand. The fruits are sweet and citrusy with rich mineral flavor and plenty of heat (50,000-80,000 Scoville).
The plants grow up to 38" and produce dozens of fruits that turn from deep green to purple and eventually red when fully ripe. The flowers are a beautiful purple and white color and the peppers are conically shaped averaging 2-3" in length.Â
This is a fantastic variety for pickling, stir-fries and the dried peppers make wonderful chili flakes with plenty of kick!
Origin:Â We spent a year traveling in SE Asia in 2003 and one of the places we loved was Chiang Mai in Norther Thailand. We made friends with a Thai family there and this is one of the peppers they grew in their gardens. They also gave of the parent seed of our Chiang Mai cherry tomato.Â
(Approximately 20 seeds per packet)
Germination Rate: All of our seed varieties exceed 80% germination and are re-tested every 6 months.
Planting Instructions: We recommend starting peppers indoors in a sunny and warm location 4-6 weeks before last frost in spring. Plant outdoors in full sun after danger of frost in spring. Note: pepper seeds need soil temperatures to be at least 70 F to germinate and we use a heating pad under the seedling tray to maintain temperature.
