Pepper (Capsicum annuum)
The Hungarian black pepper is a rare and beautiful heirloom originally developed in Kiskunfélegyháza, Hungary, a city in the center of the country on the Great Hungarian Plain. The peppers are mildly spicy (2,000-4,000 Scoville Units). The heat is accompanied by a wonderful sweet and smoky flavor when they are harvested once they've turned a ruby red color. The tall plants have gorgeous purple flowers and purple streaked stems which make them very ornamental in the garden!
Origin: We brought the parent seed of this beautiful and tasty Hungarian pepper to our garden from a trip to visit family in Hungary. The seeds came from the garden of a friend in Szeged.

Planting Instructions: We recommend starting peppers indoors in a sunny and warm location 4-6 weeks before last frost in spring. Plant outdoors in full sun after danger of frost in spring. Note: pepper seeds need soil temperatures to be at least 70 F to germinate and we use a heating pad under the seedling tray to maintain temperature.
