Largo de Reus (Capsicum annum)

A sweet old heirloom pepper from the city of Reus, Catalonia Spain. Largo "long" is an accurate description because the large peppers routinely grow to 8+" long! The fruits of Largo de Reus are thick-walled and have a very sweet flavor. This is an exceptional variety for fresh eating and it's also an excellent variety for roasting.

To accommodate the big fruits, the plants grow tall, often to 30" in height so it's a good idea to provide a trellis for the plants so the peppers don't end up on the ground.

The city of Reus is about 60 miles southwest of Barcelona on the Mediterranean coast. The city is famous as the birthplace of legendary architect Antoni Gaudí, a major hub for Catalan Modernist architecture, and a historic center for wine, brandy, and vermouth production. The first mention of Largo de Reus in the region dates back to the mid-1800s.

Origin: The parent seed of our Largo de Reus was given to us while visiting Barcelona. A friend of ours runs a community garden in Barcelona and this pepper has been grown in their gardens for many years. This friend and garden is the original source of our Spanish White Tomato as well.

(Approximately 20 seeds per packet)

Germination Rate: All of our seed varieties exceed 80% germination and are re-tested every 6 months.

Planting Instructions: We recommend starting peppers indoors in a sunny and warm location 4-6 weeks before last frost in spring. Plant outdoors in full sun after danger of frost in spring. Note: pepper seeds need soil temperatures to be at least 70 F to germinate and we use a heating pad under the seedling tray to maintain temperature.
