Paradicsom Alaku Sarga Szentes Paprika (Capsicum annum)

While the name of this beautiful sweet pepper is a mouthful, in Hungarian it translates to, "tomato-shaped yellow pepper from Szentes". The fruits are yellow, flatish and ribbed and mature from green to yellow and then light orange when fully ripe. The peppers are generally about 3" across and 3" tall and the plants are stocky, rarely growing more than 24". This variety grows well in containers.

The fruits have a great sweet flavor and the flesh is thick. We like to eat this variety fresh and they are also an excellent stuffing pepper. Papa's aunt in Hungary likes to stuff them with ground pork, bread crumbs and túró, a soft cheese made with cow and sheep's milk.

The variety originated in Szentes in south central Hungary. The region between Szentes and the larger city of Szeged which is to the south is the most famous region in Hungary for pepper production. Papa's great Aunt was a pepper researcher at the Univeristy of Szeged and the Paradicsom Alaku was her favorite variety!

Origin: The parent seed of this variety was given to us while visiting our cousins who live and farm near Szeged, Hungary.

(Approximately 20 seeds per packet)

Planting Instructions: We recommend starting peppers indoors in a sunny and warm location 4-6 weeks before last frost in spring. Plant outdoors in full sun after danger of frost in spring. Note: Pepper seeds need soil temperatures to be at least 70 F to germinate and we use a heating pad under the seedling tray to maintain temperature.
