Petit Carré de Nice (Capsicum annuum)
This small sweet pepper is a very rare heirloom variety from Nice, France. Carré is "square" in French which describes the general shape of the fruits. The small fruits are cubic, thick walled and super-sweet with a rich mineral flavor. While the fruits are almost always bell-shaped and 3” by 3”, you may occasionally find a fruit that grows a little conical and up to 6”. If you do, legend has it you'll have great luck!
Petit Carré de Nice plants are stocky and rarely grow over 24" which makes them suitable for containers. The plants have fairly dense foliage and are a mid-season producer in most climates.
This variety is one that locals to Nice almost always use when making Les Petits Farcis Niçois (pictured above) which are vegetables stuffed with a mixture of bread crumbs, herbs and meat.
Origin: The parent seed of our Petit Carré de Nice peppers came from the garden of Mama's cousin who lives on a beautiful ridge behind Nice, France that overlooks the Mediterranean (Her garden view is pictured above). She has grown these peppers in her garden for many years and whenever we visit she uses them to make us Farcis!

Germination Rate: All of our seed varieties exceed 80% germination and are re-tested every 6 months.
Planting Instructions: We recommend starting peppers indoors in a sunny and warm location 4-6 weeks before last frost in spring. Plant outdoors in full sun after danger of frost in spring. Note: Pepper seeds need soil temperatures to be at least 70 F to germinate and we use a heating pad under the seedling tray to maintain temperature.
