Sweet Tendre de Châteaurenard Pepper (Capsicum annum)
This large and sweet pepper hails from the agricultural power-house city of Châteaurenard, France, just across the Rhône River from Avignon in southcentral France. The peppers are a deep ruby red color when ripe. Generally three-lobed, the fruits grow to 8" long and are substantial in weight so it's a good idea to trellis the plants which grow between 2-3 ft tall.
The flavor of the fruits is sweet and rich with hints of minerals. This is a great fresh eating variety and they can also be stuffed. A regional recipe for stuffed Châteaurenard peppers uses a filling of beef, pine nuts, olives and bread crumbs. It's delicious!
Origin: The parent seed of our Châteaurenard pepper was given to us by the same friend who works at The Thuret Botanical Gardens in Antibes, France who gave us the original seed of our Antibes pepper from her private collection.

Germination Rate: All of our seed varieties exceed 80% germination and are re-tested every 6 months.
Planting Instructions: We recommend starting peppers indoors in a sunny and warm location 4-6 weeks before last frost in spring. Plant outdoors in full sun after danger of frost in spring. The Lesya pepper grows up to 2 ft. tall with heavy fruits so we recommend staking. Note: Pepper seeds need soil temperatures to be at least 70 F to germinate and we use a heating pad under the seedling tray to maintain temperature.
