Pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo)
Pumpkins are an incredibly versatile vegetable and we use them in soups, pies, roasted and of course, for carving Jack-O-Lanterns. Our pumpkin variety generally grow to 10-20 lbs and are great to eat or carve. Pumpkins are thought to be indigenous to North America and the oldest pumpkin seeds dated to 7000 BC and were found in Mexico.
Origin: We received a pumpkin as a gift from a friend who farms near Asheville, NC for our sons’ first Halloween. We saved seeds to grow to commemorate the occasion and we’ve grown the wonderful variety ever since.
