Rose de Berne Tomato - Riviera Strain (Solanum lycopersicum)

Rose de Berne tomatoes originated in Berne, Switzerland in the early 1900's and the delicious heirlooms have become a standard for great flavor in continental Europe. The fruits are medium sized, usually around 6-8 oz. and the flesh is generally pink. The flavor is rich and sweet with medium acid. The variety is early to mid-season so these are likely to be some of the first tomatoes that you slice for sandwiches in summer!

Like Brandywine tomatoes in the US, Rose de Berne has developed into several unique strains. Our strain is called "Riviera" because the variety comes from Gattières, France, a commune just north of Nice on the banks of the Var River. (Indeterminate)

Origin: Gattières, France is an agricultural region on the banks of the Var, River just north of Nice. We have friends who have been farming there for generations and they gave us the parent seed of their Rivera Rose de Berne.

Germination rate: 95% - tested 1/15/25

Planting Instructions: We recommend starting tomato seeds indoors in a bright and warm location 4 to 6 weeks before last frost date in spring. Transplant after danger of frost in full sun and trellis.
