Tomato (Tondo con Pizzo Long-keeper Tomato)

Tondo con Pizzo Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)

Originating in Southern Italy, Tondo con Pizzo means "round with a tip" describing the little nose on the tip of the fruit. The small red fruits have a wonderful rich flavor and generally grow to about 1/2-1oz., about the size of a walnut. The plants are productive regular-leaf and the fruits grow in clusters of 5. This is one of our favorite varieties to add to salads and to eat drizzled with a bit of olive oil and salt as an appetizer. 

Tondo con Pizzo is a long-keeper variety since the skin is thick and the flesh is firm. We hang the fruits in a cool, dry spot in the pantry and they last many weeks. 

Origin: We came across this variety many years ago while shopping at the Mercato Central in Torino, Italy. We were impressed by the hanging clusters of fruits and the farmer told us that they can keep that way for up to a few months. We brought seeds home to our garden and they have been a favorite variety ever since.

Germination Rate: All of our seed varieties exceed 80% germination and are re-tested every 6 months.

Planting Instructions: We recommend starting tomato seeds indoors in a bright and warm location 4 to 6 weeks before last frost date in spring. Transplant after danger of frost in full sun and trellis.
