Vinson Watts Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)
For fifty-two summers, Vinson Watts grew this beautiful pink tomato. For half a century, he started tomato plants from seed and saved seeds in the fall from the most delicious and disease resistant fruits. The original seed stock came from Lee County, Virginia and seeds were given to Watts in 1956 by his supervisor at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky.
The large and flattened pink fruits of this variety nearly always exceed 1 lb. and commonly reach 2 lbs. The smooth texture and finely balanced combination of sweet and acid makes the Vinson Watts tomato one of the best we've ever tasted. (Indeterminate)
Origin: The parent seed of our Vinson Watts Tomato came from a friend who attended Berea College in the late 90s and worked on the farm there. Berea College is unique in that it is one of only a handful of "work colleges" in the country where every student is require to have an on-campus job.
(Approximately 15 seeds per packet)
Planting Instructions: we recommend starting tomato seeds indoors in a bright and warm location 4 to 6 weeks before last frost date in spring. Transplant after danger of frost in full sun and trellis.
